The accident reportedly happened in the early hours of Monday 25th March 2019 between the hours of 8.30 and 9 am just around the Vice Chancellor’s lodge adjacent the route to Casely Hayford Hall.
Eyewitnesses report that the head-on collision occurred as a result of a private pickup car that was overspeeding along the road.
It is further reported that the pickup driver failed to utilise his traffic indicator yet veered in the opposite direction. The shuttle driver had since slowed down to allow the passage of the over speeding vehicle but the driver of the private vehicle rammed his vehicle into the suspecting shuttle.
The shuttle bus which had about twenty to thirty students in the shuttle was headed for Valco Hall to drop off students with the Pick-Up car coming from the opposite direction.
Thankfully at the time of filing this report, there were no cases of reported casualties although some students are yet to recover from the traumatic experience.
The driver of the private vehicle that collided into the shuttle reportedly sustained some degree of injuries and has since been rushed to the University Hospital for further treatment.
There were no policemen at that time and thus campus security handled the movement of both vehicles off the road to make way for other vehicles to pass.
