Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Alumni Ing. Richard Mawuli Amegatse is set to contest Ayawaso Wougon seat as Independent candidate.

Mr. Amegatse who graduated from Knust in 2018 will be battling with Mrs. Lydia Alhassan and Mr. John Dumelo on NPP and NDC ticket respectively.

He made known his intention to contest the seat through an official communique from his outfit cited by hypercitigh.com.

According to him, despite his resolve to run as member of parliament for the constituency, some Independent Presidential Candidates had approached him with running mate proposals. However, the constitutional age requirement per Article 94 (1) (a) of the 1992 Constitution makes him illigible.

Meanwhile his urge to make an impact politically and socially is unbroken.
This has informed his decision to vie for Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wougon Constituency.

The Ayawaso West Wougon Constituency in the Accra Metropolitan Assembly came to fame after several mishaps in the constituency earlier on in the year. The constituency is now represented in parliament by Mrs. Lydia Alhassan

With the general elections coming up in December, astute personalities are declaring their intentions as suitable candidates to take over the mantle from Mrs. Alhassan.

Ing. Richard Mawuli Megatse had been a prominent figure in the KNUST political scene and student advocacy over his four-year stay on campus. He had his first degree in Petroleum Engineering at KNUST and furthered to the University of Ghana to have his postgraduate studies in Nuclear Engineering. He has also had non-degree short courses from the National University of Singapore and Harvard University, U.S.A.

He describes himself as having “a strong aptitude for finance, analytical and reasoning skills coupled with policy making.” He backs his assertiveness and behavioural aptitude with job experiences such as being a secretary for a Managing Director, a Quality Assurance and Marketing Manager for a production firm and other menial jobs. These he says have prepared him for obstacles he might face even in carrying out the mandate as the Member of Parliament.

On why he did not compete in any notable party color, he assert that he wouldn’t necessarily need a party identity to look better as some of his would-be opponents, rather will need everyone’s support.

He adds that, the Ayawaso West Wougon seat should not be an inheritance where husbands pass to wives or where he will be acting his role as an MP like a movie but will fight for the cause of those who gave him the mandate.

Touting his credence, Amegatse notes that, with a demonstrable character of reasoning, boldness, and forthrightness, he believes is enough to deliver the needed results.

“Together let’s change the game for the people, the people have cried far too long, and they keep on being served with the same meals with different colors. Now you truly have a selfless leader you can trust. I will deliver, though I will make many enemies at the top. It is never about the guys at the top but the ones below without a voice. Make me your voice, I’ll talk for you in Parliament even if that includes speaking the uncomfortable truth” the statement reads.
