Why people still involve themselves in illegal mining-Mrs stella Kumedzro(Volta Regional Enviromental Health officer)

On 4th June, 2021,Mrs Stella kumedzro, Environmental Health Officer, Volta region, stated some reasons why people still involve themselves in illegal mining. She said this on Trendz show, at Dekash TV.

According to her ,people involve in Illegal mining because of inadequate of jobs especially formal employment. Graduates who do not have employment want to find a ways and means to cater for themselves.So they enter into illegal mining in order to put food in their mouth .

Secondly, high level of inflation in the country, the prices and cost of things have been increased,and individuals with low salaries cannot cater for their needs so they want to support themselves with another job , at the end they find themselves in this illegal mining act.

Finally, she mentioned that economic reforms contribute to the causes of Illegal mining.She added that, during Covid 19 season, individuals were sacked from their jobs,companies were collapsed and those who were victims were finding difficult to earn for a living.Therefore,
those victim may indulge themselves in Galemsey for their living.
