UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION, WINNEBA
The University of Education, Winneba was established to train teachers for the education system in Ghana. It was established in 1992 by a government ordinance (PNDC Law 322).
The University of Education, Winneba is charged with the responsibility of teacher education and producing professional educators to spearhead a new national vision of education aimed at redirecting Ghana’s efforts along the path of rapid economic and social development.
Prof. Obeng Mireku is the chairman of the UEW governing Council. The Chancellor is Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni who is assisted by Prof. Andrews Ofori-Birikorang.
The motto of the University is Education for Service. The official colors of the University are scarlet, white and ultramarine.
The university has twenty-nine academic departments and centres, seven faculties. It also has 18 distance education regional study centres throughout Ghana.
