Indigines of Ghana’s Western Region who are students of the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani have come gather to form a union – Western Region Students Association.
A document sighted by hypercitigh.com detailing the profile of the Association mentions the population of learners from the Western Region as one of the principal reasons that informed the idea to form the it.
“It is common knowledge and does not need any investigation or research to uncover that a significant number of UENR students are people from Ghana’s Western Region – learners notably from Takoradi, Tarkwa, Ahanta and Nzema areas as well as their respective suburbs. It makes every sense for us to come together to form a united front when we have travelled several kilometers away from home to situate on a ‘foreign land’ – UENR.”
As an institution of higher learning in the Bono Region approximately 400 kilometers away from Takoradi; Capital of the Western Region, the school has overwhelming enrollments from the city together with Tarkwa proper, Nzema, Wassa and Ahanta areas.
Below are the values of the Western Region Students Association:
- To promote the collective interest and wellbeing of Members
- To support the ideas (business, etc) and vision (political, etc) of Members
- To promote socialisation and connection through academic supports, social events, etc
- To promote individual security
- To promote the culture of the Western Region
A WhatsApp platform which will house all Members is yet to be created as part of the second phase of the organisation.
