A throwback video of President Akufo-Addo claiming he would reduce electricity tariffs when voted into power in one of his 2016 campaigns surfaces on the internet amid utility bills hike.
In the video sighted by Hypercitigh.com available on Browngh.com the then flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prior to 2016 General elections stated emphatically that he will reduce electricity tariffs if elected as President.
“I think it is important for there to be clarity on this matter. If the government cannot or will not listen to the calls for the reduction of electricity tariffs, it is important for the people of Ghana to know that God-willing, if I win the elections of this year, I definitely will.I will definitely reduce electricity tariffs.” Nana Addo said.
However, Ghanaians on seeing the video lambasted Akufo-Addo for deceiving them in order to win the 2016 General elections.
Ghanaians expressed their disappointment in President Akufo-Addo after the PURC announced increment in Utility bills which was contrary to the promise he made to Ghanaians prior to the 2016 general elections when he was hungry for power.
The Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) on Monday 30th September 2019 announced the increment in utility bills as taxes on communication services also increased by 9%.
The PURC increased water tariff by 2.2% while electricity shot up by 5.9%.
