Former president of the republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has revealed that the current posture if the electoral commissioner, Mrs.Jean Mensah and her deputy, Dr.Asare Bossmam makes them doubtful of fair and neutral elections come 2020.

The flag bear of the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress in the 2020 elections made this revelation on Citi Fm’s Point Blank on Eye Witness News.

In his view, the commissioners must bring all political parties aboard, create better relationships with the parties and be more open and transparent. He laments “the E.C is not a secret society. It is not somebody’s private closet that needs to be shut and us not knowing what is going on there.”

He also added that the president should focus on fulfilling his promises and stop blaming his administration for everything. According to him, the blame game in the fist and second year is normal but a third year would mean that the president is “abdicating his responsibility of running this country”.
The views of the former president and 2020 flag bearer of the NDC come to add up to his party’s same lack of confidence in the work of the electoral commissioner and her deputy. For sometime now, the NDC has been on the electoral commission to make their work more transparent and also called for them to rescind some decisions taken by the commission. They have since then taken actions like refusing to be part of some sessions of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meetings as a way of registering their displeasure.
