The former president also lauded the achievements of Kofi Annan, describing him as a source of pride to all Ghanaians.
Had the honour of receiving the family of the late Kofi Annan, a former Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) in my office on Monday. The family of the celebrated diplomat formally announced his sad passing and the funeral arrangements.
Kofi Annan has for years been a source of pride to every Ghanaian and almost all Africans. His good name and reputation rubbed off positively on us as a country.
As President, I worked with the late Kofi Annan on several projects, the last being a couple of trips in and out of Geneva when he personally decided to help with the mediation of the maritime dispute between Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire.
I looked forward to meeting him in Zimbabwe where he led a pre-election Mission, but unfortunately that did not happen.
I have signed the Book of Condolence opened in Accra and also sent a personal letter of condolence to the family. I am particularly thankful that our dear nation would have the opportunity to pay their last respect to him.
We must celebrate this illustrious son.
He lived a fulfilling life.
He achieved what most people will never be able to achieve in a life time.

Kofi Annan died in Switzerland on August 18, 2018 at age 80. He is expected to receive a state burial in the Ghanaian capital, Accra on September 13.
