KNUST SRC under the ISR ACT, 2020 has constituted an Interim Students Representative Committee to stir the affairs of students. The ISRC has been mandated to see to the election of new SRC executives after the 2019/2020 admistration exhausted their tenure of office.
The ISRC on Tuesday, August 4 met with the transitional team from the outgoing ABC led SRC. The meeting was purposely to establish a mutual ground for the proper handing over of some important documents, keys to S.R.C Secretariat office, keys to the official vehicle of the SRC and personal documents of outgoing members to the ISRC.
The meeting was chaired by Master Michael Gyan, the outgoing S.R.C Judicial Committee Chairman. The meeting was also graced by two other outgoing members of the S.R.C, Master Owusu-Asante Fernando, the outgoing Chief of Staff and Master Hunvilla Asamoah Agyemang, the outgoing Speaker of Parliament. All ISRC members were present with the exception of the GRASAG representative.
The issue of constituting an Interim Electoral Commission was brought on board for deliberation. It emerged that the names provided by the outgoing electoral commissioner, Master Phillip Ofori had a conflicting interest assertion. This led to an issue of a 24-hour ultimatum by the chair for the meeting, Master Michael Gyan seconded by Owusu- Asante Fernando. The ultimatum expired at 6pm today, August 5, 2020.
Information is yet to be relayed as to whether or not the ultimatum has been honoured. Consequently, the composition of the I-EC faces the chance of being usurped by the outgoing house and appointments made per the discretion and concurrence of the house, according to the Chief of Staff. The handing over is set to come off on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 9am with the Dean of Students expected to be present for the ceremony.
