Mr. Bright Ampofo, former Deputy Speaker of the SRC Parliamentary Council and HESA President called on the Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Prof Obiri-Danso, on Friday July 24, to specifically discuss the challenges surrounding the deadline for the payment of school fees by students who owe.

It can be recalled that on Wednesday, July 22, a message was sent from the school to students to notify them about payment of outstanding fees and the consequences thereof should they default. The said deadline is August 3, 2020 which is exactly 12 days from the day the notice was sent out.

According to him, the economic shock the Country is in, where some workers receive half salaries and others laid off by their employers, the downward trajectory of businesses etc., it will be very challenging for most parents/guardians to pay the arrears within the short notice of the given deadline. Therefore, he suggested to the Vice Chancellor to :

  1. grant an extension of the deadline for these students.
  2. also if results of these students can be released upon payment of 50% of the amount owed.

Even though, the Vice Chancellor promised to look into the issue if it is tabled by the SRC, he is optimistic the kind heart of the VC will be brought to bear on the matter.
