Diego Maradona was stopped at an airport and arrested after his ex-girlfriend sued him for a $A9million payout, it has been reported.
Local media in Buenos Aires are suggesting the football legend was detained when he flew into the Argentina capital from Mexico.
It is believed the controversial Argentina hero was spoken to regarding a court action filed by his former partner Rocio Oliva.
The pair enjoyed a six-year relationship before they broke up in December last year.
Oliva has now gone on to launch a claim in the San Miguel Family Court for “action of economic compensation” against the 58-year-old.
Maradona was returning to his homeland from Mexico where he is manager of club side Dorados de Sinaloa when he was reportedly confronted.
It is claimed authorities took him aside, detained him and then issued formal notice of the proceedings against him from Oliva, herself a former footballer.
A court date has been listed for June 13, which will be attended by his lawyer Matias Morla.
Morla is said to have been with Maradona during his brief detention of a few minutes before the former Barcelona man was released.
Maradona posted a photo of himself with Morla in a car after leaving the airport with the caption: “Now in Buenos Aires, on my way home with my friend @matiasmorlaok.”
Maradona, who raised concern at the World Cup last summer after appearing to collapse, met Oliva in 2012 but they broke up in December 2018.
