The deposed Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Professor Mawutor Avoke, together with four other persons who form management of the University, had stated that they will seek legal redress regarding their purported dismissal.
On August 14, 2018, the Governing Council of the University announced the dismissal of the five persons after an emergency meeting.
The Finance Officer of the University, Dr. Theophilus Senyo Ackorlie, together with the Vice Chancellor, one Daniel Tetteh, Mary Dzimey and Frank Owusu Boateng were asked to leave office.
Their dismissal was on the back of some allegations of financial malfeasance amidst legal suits against them.

In a statement released by the Vice Chancellor and the four others, the allegations made against them is still pending in court, hence, they are yet to be proven guilty or otherwise by the court.

“No court has found us guilty of any procurement or financial malfeasance. As individuals, we have not been taken to any court and no charges have been brought against us. We have also not appeared before any court or been heard by any court on any charges.”
They noted that an earlier court ruling which implicated the Vice Chancellor and the Finance Officer for their involvement in the North Campus Road Contract was later quashed unanimously by the Supreme Court on December, 20, 2017.

According to them, the contract for the construction of the North Campus Road was not awarded by Mr. Avoke.
“We wish to state emphatically that the said North Campus Road Contract was not awarded by Professor Mawutor Avoke.
“The North Campus Road Contract was awarded by the then Vice-Chancellor, Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw through an MOU between UEW and the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) in Winneba.”

The five have, therefore, stated that their dismissal is unfair; hence, they will resort to the courts to ensure justice prevails.
“We completely disagree with our purported dismissal as was communicated to us and reported to the media. We shall use lawful means to seek justice. We believe that the truth shall be established and known to all one day no matter how long it takes.”
