Ms Afua Ansah Manukure, a champion of the 2016 edition of the Spelling Bee competition has been named one of the winners of the 2020 WAEC Distinction Awards by the West African Examinations Council.
Afua Ansah, who sat for the 2020 edition of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) administered by WAEC had a total score of 624. 640 making her the overall third best Ghanaian student.
The speller currently studying Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University, USA, took home $900.
Ms Afua Ansah won the 2016 Spelling Bee competition 2016 after attempting 3 years. She went on to shine at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the USA as the first African to make it to the top 20.
The Distinction Awards organized by the non-profit-making organization seeks to honour candidates in the 5 member countries who performed outstandingly in the just ended 2020 WASSCE for School Candidates.
According to the Examinations Council, over two million candidates from the five participating countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and the Gambia sat for the 2020 edition of the WASSCE.
