Matriculation is an important induction ceremony for freshers. It is an official ceremony for freshers to be officially announced or introduced as students at a University (KNUST in this case).
It is very important per the university’s requirements. It is a very short ceremony which is done on college basis; it usually takes about twenty to thirty minutes. There will be in attendance some important dignitaries of the university hence its protracted importance. Matriculation is a small reflection of what the graduation will look like, formal attire, the gowns, the pictures, and the presence of some important dignitaries. Such dignitaries include the Vice-Chancellor, the Dean of Students, the Registrar, and the respective college leadership. Other professors might attend but it is highly unlikely that the Chancellor himself will be in attendance.
For guys the best way to go is to put on a nice black or blue-black suit with a white shirt, flying tie and some nice shoes and a watch. The whole idea is to look good and formal because just like graduation you get to matriculate just once; it is an important occasion. Guys can also just go simple and put on a nice formal shirt, black or blue-black trousers and a nice black shoe to match.
For the ladies, the best way to go is to put on a nice black or white dress with some nice jewelry, have a decent hairdo, and a put-on pair of nice black shoes. The ladies can also put on an “official skirt and blouse combo wear” or a more colorful dress but not too colorful.
No matter what you do just know that matriculation is not a dress-up contest so try not to overdo things especially with the makeup, the hairdo, and stuff like that. Also, just because it is not a contest does not mean you should dress anyhow.
Lest I forget, unlike graduation, do not stress your parents for their presence for the matriculation. Honestly, it wouldn’t be worth it for a parent to travel for hours (that’s when they live outside the region) to witness a maximum of 5 minutes ceremony. It rather looks childish to call up your parents for the ceremony. It is better to share the day with friends and colleagues and capture some memorable moments with the camera.
