Hypercitigh.com has cited a letter addressed to the Ministry of Education by Unity Hall JCRC registering their displeasure about a purported letter signed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh advising KNUST management to consider the decision on reversing Katanga, to its single-sex status.
The letter dated 7th September 2019 re-echoes the fact that members of the hall and the JCRC leadership has not given up on issues of tradition and most importantly the ones which has to do with the conversion of the hall into a mixed-sex hall.
We wish to expressly state, that we are highly disappointed with the content of the said letter, and the approach used by the government knowing very well that, the letter would only serve a purpose of rekindling unnecessary tension and reactions from members of the other halls, that have been affected by the conversion” the letter reads..
Following the twist and turn in the mixed hall saga which has bedeviled KNUST prior to the infamous October, 22 and after, tension has mounted ever since, from all cylinders causing a steer on academic life.
The JCRC further noted with caution that the Ministry is only reactive to threats of violence as opposed to the subtle approach of dialogue which members of Unity Hall have chosen over the period through petitions submitted to the Chancellor of the University, the Office of the Minister of Education, as well as filing legal suit to contest the decision in court which has proven futile.
