The KNUST Electoral process is known far and wide across the length and breadth of Ghana for its cut-throat nature and high-stake activities. After several months of campaigning, the endorsement from the various factions of the University caucus was not the only confirmation aspirants needed to be fully eligible to run for office; the hallmark invents include an S.R.C Vetting, Presidential Debate and finally the crème dela crème- S.R.C General Elections.
The S.R.C Vetting scheduled to come off on July 3, 2021 at the Great Hall of the University started with the customary vetting of various aspirants for portfolios from the Women’s Commissioner through to the S.R.C President portfolio. There was however an anti-climax to the Vetting Process with events leading up to massive morale sessions for the two candidates endorsed by the two former all-males halls of the University, Unity Hall and the University Hall spiralling into a near- open brawl for compatriots of both halls present at the Vetting event.
Following an abrupt close to the Vetting Process due to several escalations and disagreements between the two factions, a scuffle occurred which was duly contained by the security services available at the event. The containment though timely did not stop several damages to fixtures and fittings within and without the Great Hall of the University.
As a result of the disagreement between the two factions, Management of the University has today, July 4, 2021, issued a communique from the outfit of the University Relations Officer, suspending all S.R.C Election-related activities until further notice. The University again debunked prior media rounds of reports of extended brutalities citing only one individual who sustained injuries in his hand through a prior clash at the S.R.C Vetting scene. The communique established that calm has been restored and that students are going on with their daily activities without hampering.
