At the just ended Shenyang Aerospace International Students Matriculation and International College Student of the Year ceremony, one of Ghana’s own international students studying in the Shenyang Aerospace University clinched the top accolade as ‘Academic Model Student of the Year’.

Austin McHaizel won the prestigious award which is a statement of the fact he is someone whose academic path should be followed by students of the University and beyond.

An Alumnus of the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) in Takoradi, McHaizel revealed in an exclusive interview with hypercitigh.com that the award is a dream come true as it is not easy to come by one in a school like his that has over a thousand international students.

“Winning this award means a lot to me. Being recognized by such an institution with over 1,000 international students is really a dream come true for me and it’s not something that comes easy so I am really honored for getting this award” he said.

In his final year, Mr. McHaizel has already proven his prowess over the years with a number of top awards since his days as a freshman. In the year 2017, he won the Outstanding Freshman award and also adjudged the school’s Academic Excellence award in the year 2018 and 2019.

In October, 2020 Austin came third in the Chinese knowledge competition.  Coming in as his 5th award, Mr. McHaizel says his secret has been his parents and upcoming generation. “The secret behind the continuous wins is my parent. What makes me keep pushing to be the best is to make my family proud of me and also be a role model for the younger generation” he said.

His ASPORIA team became the first Ghanaian team to enter the Airbus Fly Your Ideas Competition’s Round Two-Stage in 2019.

The competition, which was designed by Airbus in partnership with UNESCO, challenges students worldwide to innovate for the future of aerospace.
