Virgil Abloh, Ghanaian CEO of Off-White passes on at age 41

Virgil Abloh passed on in the early hours of 28th November, 2021 of cancer which he had been battling privately for several years.

Abloh was born in September 30th, 1980 in Rockford, Illinois to Ghanaian immigrants.

Abloh rised to prominence whiles interning at Fendi after graduating from the University of Wisconsin – working together with rapper Kanye West in 2009.

The two began a collaborative relationship which led to Abloh’s appointment on Kanye West’s creative agency, DONDA as creative director. He won the admiration of Michael Burkle, CEO of Luis Vutton through his work at Fendi.

Abloh founded the high-end streetwear brand, Off-White inspired by Ben Kelly in 2013. ‘The gray area between black and white as the color Off-White’, how he described Off-White to investors and fashion critics.

Abloh, throughout his short artistic career worked with brands like Fendi, Ralph Lauren, Nike, IKEA, Luis Vutton, Rimowa, SSENSE and due to his interest in music, he ventured into DJing working with big names like Kanye, Jay Z, among others. He released his first single ‘Orvnge’ with German DJ/Producer Boys Noize in 2018.
