Like a dormant volcano, the eruption of St. Augustine’s College (Augusco) stunned the heavyweights in the competition and they could just watch as the sea-siders were crowned winners.

Augusco was reduced to social media trolls after crashing out in 2017

The likes of Mfantsipim, Adisadel and Wesley Girls Senior High were all tipped as favourites to win but St. Augustine’s had different ideas.

Augusco had fallen from grace after a one-eighth stage elimination in 2017. Their woes increased after an underdog, Swedru Senior High used them to get on the map in the 2018 qualifiers.

That loss caused them to miss the national competition in 2018. But they seem to be back as they have stopped the four-time consecutive finalists, Adisadel College and other giants of the Central region.

The Central region championship also recorded other upsets. The University Practice Senior High School, who were placing last at the penultimate round of their first contest found themselves winners.
