Don’t pay for posting – NSS Secretariat

Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme, Madam Gifty Oware has described the practice of issuing money to “agents” for posting into desired institutions as illegal.

She explained that it is unlawful for any  National Service Scheme personnel to take any charges for posting and added that students are posted to various institutions  with respect to the program they pursued in school.

She discouraged the public from trooping the secretariat’s office to lobby and incentivize the staff to post them to preferred institutions.

“We do not charge anybody to post them. It is unlawful for any staff to request  for money from anyone for posting.

It is unauthorized for anyone to come to the office to lobby for posting into desired institutions  and locations. If you have any concern regarding where you have been posted to and wish to change, you must write to the secretariat .

Speaking further ,she stated that the National Service is a one year program and hence, the notion that one could serve for 6 months and still be eligible for a certificate should be discarded.

“The misconception that you could work 6 months after which you will be eligible for a certificate is unlawful. The National Service Scheme is a one year program where you work for 11months and go for a terminal break in the 12th month.If for any reasons , you will not be able to complete the course, you must write to the secretariat .Upon considering your reasons you could be given the permission to defer the service and continue later.”

Madam Gifty Oware also revealed that registration is on going for only private registrants( people who completed school  abroad) and defaulters (people who completed school in Ghana butcould not enrol on the scheme the previous year(s),albeit ,registration onto the scheme for students graduating this year will begin later in the year(August).

“We are embarking on a campus tour to the various institutions to sanitize students on the National Service  Scheme processes. Registration for prospective graduates will commence in August.Registration ,however is on going for people who completed  school abroad And those who completed in Ghana but  weren’t able to enrol on the program the previous year(s).”

Adding to this, the deputy executive director of the NSS  hinted that scheme gives peculiar consideration to persons living with disabilities  and or some health conditions.
