“Visionary people face the same problems everyone else faces; but rather than get paralyzed by their problems, visionaries immediately commit themselves to finding a solution.” ~ Bill Hybels
Every good and perfect problem solving techniques would always come from a visionary leader. There is now the need to resolve and revive our Association. I have a part to take, You have role to play and We have a duty to execute.
He is one of Ghana’s most outstanding young men in politics, where it all began in primary school. He took the risk of running for the position of Boys’ School prefect and won. He sought further leadership opportunities alongside his education, just like Oliver Twist.
Derrick lays down concrete measures that will act as instructions to serve his people, as his name appears on one of the few lists of candidates for Press and Information Secretary.
Unlike others, Derrick seems to be a leader who has the desires of the Ghanaian students at heart and in mind.
The former Public Relations Officer has realized certain advocacy platforms for students and opportunities for students to channel their grievances and displeasures in hard times seem unavailable.
My main motivation for going for this portfolio is that I envision a USAG that seeks to promote the interest of students through Advocacy, Negotiation, and Implementation.
In my bid to ensure that the secretarial role of this noble student arm impacts tertiary students positively, I took time to reflect on the very issues that are pertinent to students life and after thorough consultation with various stakeholders in member universities in order to figure out how to bridge the lapses in the system, I came up with this roadmap which I believe if implemented will go a long way to help students.
There shall be a USAG Website which provides updates and activities of the Association. University students will have access to relevant information on issues confronting students and steps taken by the Association to tackle same as well information on scholarship schemes and other opportunities available to students.
A USAG App will be created to keep a directory of Executive Officers (appointees inclusive). This is to curtail the stress in which member institutions go through before getting in touch with National Executive Officers.
There shall be a section that provides relevant educational materials for students reading various programs.
USAG Connect Hour:
This policy seeks to network with all the Public Relation Officers or representatives of all member institutions to brief the National Executive Officers on the current activities at their various campuses and as well be fed with progress geared towards improving education and advocating for students interest at the National level. Also, use of media houses will be used in reaching a larger populace.
USAG Monthly Bulleting:
There shall be Monthly updates of the Association which will be sent to member institutions in the form of newsletters and brochures.
While I was President, I took it upon myself to combat climate change at Boadi a township in the Ashanti region. Conservation of our natural resources is the core objective of the Association and my leadership contributed its quota protecting and safeguarding the sustainability of natural environment.
Through organized seminars and summits, the members of RENARSA were sensitized and motivated to come out and to be problem solving personalities in every areas of their lives which was successful and now they are….. It’s quite encouraging…So after I have been able to boost their morale then I have taken a step ahead so they can follow… that’s why I moved to go the PRESS AND INFORMATION SECRETARY position so that they will lead all by emulating my steps! “Good leaders have vision and inspire others to help them turn vision into reality.
Great leaders have a vision, share the vision and inspire others to create their own.”
Some people seek roles for the sake of a title, while others do so for personal gain, but I want to make a difference in students’ lives. I want to serve them so that they can remember how well their lives were impacted positively after my service in the office of the Press and Information secretary for the Association.
I want to be your advocate to voice out for the redemption of the image of USAG to be back on track. I still believe in our University Students’ Association of Ghana (USAG) because there is hope.
Let’s arise and Put USAG First.
Long Live Ghana!
Long Live USAG!
Unity In Diversity!
