The Akuafo Hall of residence at the University of Ghana has opened nominations for interested students to contest in the 2020/2021 Junior Common Room (JCR) elections.

A notice sighted by Univers News urged student-residents of the Hall to pick up nomination forms between Tuesday, April 20 to Tuesday, April 27, 2021.

The vetting of aspirants is expected to take place on Saturday, May 1, 2021, and the Publication of vetting results after two days.

The notice further added that the Akuafo hall set Friday, May 21, 2021, as the election day.

Akuafo Hall’s concurrent online, onsite elections

Speaker of the Akuafo Hall Senate, David Oppong-Quarshie noted earlier that the legislative arm in collaboration with the Electoral Commission is planning to hold Junior Common Room (JCR) elections for the 2020/2021 academic year ‘concurrently’ online and onsite.

According to him, electing a new crop of student leaders at the Hall is a “non-negotiable” decision considering the running of the University of Ghana’s Modular system.

He made this known in an interview on our morning show, Campus Exclusive.

“We intend to use the conventional on-site systems [of elections] for those on campus and the online system for those home so that the elections would be held concurrently to minimize any risk or challenges posed by the online system,” he said
