University Of Energy And Natural Resources Elects 7th SRC President

Students of the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani have on Thursday, 21st January, 2021 elected a new President and other Executives to lead the Student’s Representative Council (SRC).

According to official figures from the Electoral Commission, The polls, which started at 7:00 in the morning and ended at 4:00pm saw Mr. Wiafe Richard; a Level 400 Entrepreneurship student popularly known as Morata emerging as winner after clinching 70.29% of the total valid votes cast as against his only contender; Mr. Boakye Akosah Kwabena.

“TEAM MOBERK”; under which’s machinery the President Elect won the elections seek to improve four key areas of students’ life – welfare, academics, sports and entertainment. Flagship among their projects and special initiatives are initiating the construction of an SRC hostel, providing free WiFi to students everywhere on campus, establishing a health post at the Dormaa campus of the university, supporting physically challenged students, ensuring the operationalisation of the e-library system, introduction of an entrepreneurship support system, facilitating the participation of UENR students in national and worldwide entrepreneurship competitions, procurement of entertainment logistics and others.

Mr. Michael Yaw Berko; a level 400 Renewable Energy Engineering student and former President of the University’s Writers and Debaters Society will serve as Vice President to Mr. Wiafe in his administration.

The other Executives elected are:

  1. Frimpong Adakabre Manso Elvis – LNUGS President
  2. Agnes Oforiwaa Acheampong – Women’s Commissioner
  3. Boafo Paul Obeng – SRC General Secretary
  4. Michaella Karikari – LNUGS General Secretary
  5. Duah Enoch – SRC Financial Secretary
  6. Owusu Kelvin – LNUGS Financial Secretary

The elections finally saw the light of the day after a failed attempt in employing online means to conduct it when all schools in Ghana were closed due to the CoVID-19 pandemic.
