UCC: Management threatens students against intended demo

Management of the University of Cape Coast has cautioned a group calling itself ‘Concerned Students’ of the University of Cape Coast against proceeding with a planned demonstration.

The planned protest by the students is to register their displeasure over the withdrawal of the services of the Metro Mass Transit Bus (MMT) which was initiated by University Management.

In a press release signed by the Registrar of the University, Mr. John Kofi Nyan, the University Management urged students to rather use laid down procedures to engage Management on any concerns that they may have.

The University explained that despite the staunch position of the SRC Executive Council not to finance the operations of the Metro Mass buses on campus, the university management took it upon themselves to pay for the services of the MMT in the first semester of the 2018/2019 academic year so as to avoid legal actions.

They further explained that they had to reconsider their decision as they realized that financing the MMT bus service from Central Accounts is unsustainable and thus called for the termination of the contract with the Metro Mass Transit.

University Management, in the release also stated that they have planned to meet with the student body on Thursday March 7 to discuss the MMT bus service and find lasting solution to the problem.
