NUGS calls on Employment and Labour Relations Ministry; charges Ministry to be proactive to preserve academic work

The Yiadom Boakye led NUGS on Wednesday, July 14 paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.

The Union in the bid to ensure that education in the country is left to run smootly, called on the Ministry as against recent happenings on the labour front.

Present were Hon Ignatius Baffour Awuah ( Minister), Hon Wereko Brobbey ( Deputy Minister ) and other staff members.

Central in the conversations were the recent strike actions and potential strikes from labor groups which threaten the stability of academic activities.

The Union charged the Ministry to act more proactively rather than reactionary towards mitigating the impact of strikes from Labor Unions, citing the recent TEWU and Senior Staff Members strikes which left students in dismay as examples.

The Union also proposed partnership with the ministry on its intended National Dialogue on The Future of Jobs, a platform intended to educate the public on the changing nature of job markets and why the youth must adapt to fit in.
