Newly admitted students of the University of Ghana want the management of the University to consider organizing an orientation program for them on how to use the Sakai Learning Management System (LMS).
The Sakai LMS is the main platform that faculty have been asked to use for online academic activities.
According to these students, they are new to the use of Sakai, and thus, a training programme will go a long way to help them effectively participate in online academic activities.
“The University should have given us a week or two to educate us on Sakai. Most of us don’t know about Sakai. How much more can we navigate on it?” one level 100 student told UniversNews
“I am just confused about the whole Sakai thing. As I am speaking to you, I don’t know what to do. I am offered B.Sc in Biological Science and I was told that we have to join a group on Sakai for our E-learning. I don’t know how to do that. Please we want the school to do something about it,” another newly admitted student said.
Academic activities have commenced at the University of Ghana and lecturers have been advised to, as much as possible, engage their students online.
The decision to run the 2020/2021 academic year online is part of efforts by the university to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, authorities have published on the Sakai portal, a guide for students and faculty on the Sakai learning management system.
