The fundamental requirement for the financial secretary portfolio is records keeping and making these records available to the students populace in the form of budget statements and other financial statements.
The constitution provides timelines for the fulfilment of such mandates but over the years, it has been increasingly difficult for such timelines to be followed.
This usually results in numerous agitations from sections of the student populace. According to Solomon, serving as the financial secretary of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (COHSS), he had a similar experience and as such has come up with practical ways to ensure the SRC budget is published even before the constitutional timeline.
He has therefore promised to publish the SRC Budget in the FIRST WEEK of the FIRST semester and this will be thoroughly broken down to the barest minimum to ensure students are aware of each penny of their money being used.
Solomon believes that as a student body, we are accountable to ourselves and hence in the body of accountability lies it’s fervent advocate Solomon Coffie.
“I have proven in all my endeavours that I embody all shades of accountability and with your support I can be the heartbeat of an accountable student body of ours” -Solomon Coffie
He is therefore urging all students to join him as he embarks on this journey to bring Financial Discipline and Accountability (FDA) to the SRC.
