It is certainly true that there has always been a norm of increment in hostel prices on campus and it’s environs every academic year.
However, this year’s increment especially with regards to the GUSS hostels prices is very problematic to the entire team of ABBAN.
It is in this vain, that Kevin Abban (SRC Presidential Aspirant) paid a courtesy call on the Ashanti Regional Rent Control Director to help structure a meeting with the Dean of Students, Ghana Rent Control, Hostel Managers/Owners in and around KNUST campus to discuss the issue of accommodation pricing and high increment in the pricing annually.
This meeting is to ensure that a favorable terms of agreement is established between stakeholders which are management and students. Kevin Abban is keen to be the voice of students especially with the issue of accommodation pricing after Covid-19 pandemic which we have still not recovered from its effects.
KEVIN ABBAN views it as just fair if management does something about their pricing policy. In the meeting with the rent control, The Regional Director also proposed these recommendations:
• Make sure all hostels are registered under the Rent Control Authority.
• Set a rate for increment annually or bianually.
It is our hope to see these recommendations implemented by the authority. KEVIN ABBAN
is here to serve you and seek your interest first.
We regard your suggestions, and we urge that students with further recommendations should kindly send them via these social media Twitter:@kevinktabban,
