The 12th Parliament of the KNUST SRC is in full session. It has commenced its work with the passing of a bill for financial intervention.
Following several appeals to the student populace to aid students who are in dire need of financial aid for various health procedures, the House passed the KNUST SRC Health Support Bill into Law on Saturday, February 20, 2021.
In a statement from the outfit of the SRC Parliamentary Council, it states the SRC Health Support Fund is to help address the mitigation of health bills of students of the University. According to the release, the Fund shall be entrusted to the SRC Health Support Fund Committee.
This committee shall comprise the SRC Health Officer, Chairperson of the residence and welfare committee, SRC welfare chairperson, Representation from the University counselling unit, Representation from the office of the Dean of Students. The Committee is to be chaired by the SRC Welfare Chairman.
On issues of eligibility, the statement notes that
“Any applicant must be a student at the time of application.”
The statement went on to emphatically explain the various functions of the committee and also how funds will be mobilized to execute the mandate of this timely student care intervention.
This intervention comes after several instances of students trying with individual and a few collective efforts to raise funds to cater for some health bills of colleagues within the institution; latest amongst these appeals, an appeal to help finance Ms. Rita Adjoa Abodoh’s prosthetic surgery.
