The KNUST SRC financial secretary has finally released the 1st semester budget. The SRC intends to spend Ghc 996,250.00 within the first semester of the 2020-2021 academic year.
Mr. Ofosu Felix Solomon on Friday, March 27 2021 made public the administration’s budget following several calls from media activists.
Article 25 (6) of the 2011 SRC constitution as amended mandates the financial secretary to publish the administration’s budget on all notices upon approval by the SRC Parliament.
OFS as affectionately called is the first non-business student to hold the financial secretary portfolio and consequently first to drag a constitutional mandate to his own peril.
However, he is the first financial secretary to publish the SRC budget in a standard format detailing the administration’s programmes and policies for the semester. Also, he comes as first to readily put out the budget statement on social media platforms for the consumption of ordinary students.
SRC BUDGET STATEMENT
The Samuel Sesah led administration took over the SRC mandate from the Interim SRC on Thursday, February 4 2021.
According to the budget statement, the SRC Parliament approved the budget on March, 7 2021.
Mr. Osei Fosu Solomon indicates that funds available to the SRC stood at Ghc1,215,000.00. However upon careful analysis of the resource gaps and semester duration, the executive council has cut down total semester expenditure to Ghc 996,250.00 saving some Ghc 120, 800.00.
Although, the SRC Parliament Council approved 1,117,050. 00 to the Samuel Sesah led administration, the SRC reckons otherwise.
Already, the SRC has organized a handful of programmes, notably, the 60th Anniversary launch, State of SRC Address, Leadership Training for ECs, Secretaries connect, among others.
Meanwhile the semester is at its tail end with first semester examinations scheduled for Monday, April 2021.
