KNUST EC – Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s Student Representative Council, Mr. Akwasi Nti Awuah has underscored the need for students of the university to desist from the politics of voting for a candidate in the 2019 elections by affiliation and friendships, but rather focus on accessing competency, resourcefulness and adroitness.

His advise comes at a time when several students have come up with their intention of contesting for various positions in student leadership, creating camps to lead a campaign.

According to Akwasi Nti, the university is gradually embracing leadership of less and less quality. This he believes is as a results of the challenges in conversation about leadership and superintendence even at the national level has been shifted analysis of policies and has been lowered to mere political affiliations and considerations.

“It is pity that a chunk of our student leaders have been enslaved by their political colours and also by their so called gods and hence take the most misguided decisions which affect all of us,” he stated.

He therefore advised electorates for the 2019 KNUST student Elections to be on their guard and be more concerned about feasible policies, direction of transparency and selfless Leadership rather than looks, friendships and affiliations.

Akwasi Nti further reiterated the commission’s commitment and measures to ensure free and fair elections.

“This year’s electoral democratic season promises to be one of exemption and difference, one of fairness and transparency, one devoid of influence and one that I can promise will yield the best leaders to serve our students in the next academic year,” he stated.
