In a release sent to UniversNews, they are foregoing work to march on the school’s administration.
The planned demonstration exercise is to register their displeasure over recent cases of brutalities suffered by students in the hands of the school’s security.

Aside the demonstration, the students have announced that they are boycotting lectures.
Since the official conversion of all traditional halls of residence into mixed ones by the school’s management, students, especially of the University Hall have suffered violence from the school’s security with the recent case happening on Friday.

Unfortunately, in all two reported cases of brutalities against the students, school management have appeared unconcerned.
In the communique, the alumni demanded that the Unity and University Halls be restored to an all-male hall so as to continue their tradition.

Meanwhile, the KNUST SRC President, Mr. Kelvin Sah will at 7:30pm tonight address his constituents on KNUST’s campus-based radio station Focus 94.3MHz.

People of Ghana. We are marching on the administration of KNUST this Tuesday Oct 23!
No lectures, no work! School must shut down!
The injustice being meted out to our finest students enrolled in KNUST came to a crescendo when this past Friday, hoards of security men turned VC Obiri-Danso’s militia, cruelly beat up katangees.
Our crime was an attempt to play drums and sing jama.

Where have we heard this in our history? Oh yes, slavery days and colonial era. When black Africans were not allowed to have drums, not even in churches, because the white man feared that it will raise a riot.
How is this even sensible in a place where we as Ghanaians are grooming our finest students to lead this country in future.
Why won’t these security men be educated to realize that every student deserves to be protected and served, as they are the ones paying fees? What tyranny!
Our Demands:
! Restore merit based (academic, sports, traditional and political leadership, etc) criteria for awarding traditional rooms. No more in out out out.
! Restore Katanga and Unity to all male status and leave them to practice their tradition in peace. All chiefs of Ghana who are not speaking against this injustice should take a moment to consider Obiri Danso’s experiment being conducted on their soils by a government.
! The vc should apologize to his customers, ie students, and all of Ghana for the crazy brutality his militia have meted out to innocent public.
Aluta Continua!
