KNUST: Oforikrom MP Calls For Urgent Stakeholders Meeting To Construct Off-Campus Roads After SRC President-Elect’s Call

Member of Parliament for Oforikrom Constituency Dr. Emmanuel Marfo has promised a stakeholders meeting with management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) including Hostel Managers at Ayeduase and surrounding communities to look at the way forward on how the poor road networks at the communities can be addressed as soon as possible.
Dr. Marfo on Sunday, May 12th, 2019 joined newly elected executives of the Student Representative Council (SRC) of KNUST to embark on a one-day tour to surrounding communities in order to ascertain for themselves various complains on issues by students and to provide remedy for the problems confronting them and residents of Ayeduase and the entire off campus fraternity.

Speaking in an interview with Focus FM’s Irene Pomaa Kumi, the Member of Parliament expressed worry over the challenges off-campus students go through daily.
“It is an  eye opener, I knew there were challenges but I didn’t  imagine the challenges were so grieve,” he said.
According to him, he will organize Hostel Managers, University Management, the Local Government and Students’ Leaders to collectively address the challenges.

KNUST SRC President elect, Master Adu Baah Charles also explained the reason for embarking on the tour although his official duties have not yet began.
According to him, these were some of the cries of most students off campus during his campaign especially during the rainy season as the rains cause serious flooding in the area due to lack of proper drainage facilities in the community.

Master Adu Baah Charles said as he is bounded by duty, he is to serve as the mouthpiece of the students body and forward their grievances to the University Management and other stakeholders involved; “that pushed the agenda for this step taken and I promise students there are more in the pipeline to be done”.

“I’m still trying to speak to some contractors who have asked me to meet them on Tuesday to see how best we can solve the off-campus road problem,” he said.
Adu Baah Charles also revealed to focus news that he has been able to lobby for the SRC to get a secretariat at the basement of the non-re facility including a reduction in swimming price at the KNUST pool side for students from 50 cedis to 35 cedis as well as some study areas which are yet to be properly developed for students to study.
