The team led by Master Joshua Ntim-Gyimah paid the Vice-Chancellor the much-needed visit to lay pertinent issues concerning the welfare of students before the Vice-Chancellor and to seek her advice.
The KNUST Obuasi campus which was set up in September 2019 has since elected the students’ Representative Council (SRC) to be at the helm of students’ affairs on the Obuasi campus. The team of executives who called on the VC includes the SRC president Master Joshua Ntim-Gyimah, financial secretary Master Andy Osei Antwi, and Women’s Commissioner, Miss Belinda Quayson. They were warmly received by the Vice-Chancellor and the purpose of their visit commenced.
Issues concerning campus transport, library system, internet connection, non-resident lecturers, the KNUST scholarship fund, and the need for data packages. The VC assured the executives that the transportation problem is being addressed as more camp rides will be provided on campus were discussed. The Vice-Chancellor noted that the issue of WIFI was solved during the lockdown period hence Obuasi campus students will enjoy free WiFi on campus.
When the executives raised concerns about the accommodation of lecturers on campus, Prof Dickson made them aware that the construction of residences for the lecturers on campus is underway.
Issues pertaining to the library, scholarship fund (Ketewa Biara Nsua-KBN), and the Vodafone data packages are all being addressed, and changes will be seen in due time; this the VC lay bare to the visiting team.
Finally, Prof. Ms. Rita Oduro Dickson advised the SRC executives to study hard, learn to combine leadership with academics, and do well to excel at both.
The visit ended with both parties well informed and the students’ grievances taken into consideration.
