UTAG strike: KNUST suspends end of semester exams indefinitely



Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has indefinitely suspended its end-of-semester exams till further notice.

This follows an industrial action that is being embarked on by the Universities Teachers Association of Ghana.

A statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Academic Affairs, Margeret Dzisi indicated that a new schedule will be revealed at the appropriate time.

“It is announced for the information of all students and staff , that due to the on-going strike action by UTAG, the end of seemster exams originally scheduled from Monday 9th August 2021 to Friday 20th August 2021 have been temporarily suspended till further notice. A new schedule will be revealed at the appropriate time.” parts of the statement reads.

Many other universities including the University of Ghana has also resolved to put on hold their end-of-semester exams.

UTAG strike

Lectures across the country want an increment in their salaries.

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) wants the 2012 conditions of service to peg the Basic plus Market Premium of a lecturer at $2,084.42.

In declaring their strike, which took effect on August 2, 2021, UTAG’s National Executive Committee announced that all academic activities were to be suspended including the conduct and supervision of examinations.
