Management of the University of Ghana has extended the expiration date of final year students’ identity cards (ID) to November 14, 2021.
Univers News‘ checks indicate that the identity cards of the level 400 students ceased to be valid on the 30th day of June 2021.
In consonance with regulations guiding university examinations, “all examination candidates are required to present valid University of Ghana identity cards during examinations.”
First and final-year students of the premier university are expected to sit for the end of second semester main examinations from Saturday, August 7, to Sunday, August 22, 2021.
In a notice to the University community, the school has therefore allowed the students to present the ‘expired’ IDs for all upcoming examinations.
“The validity period for University of Ghana identity cards for final year students has been officially extended to expire on Sunday, November 14, 2021. Final year candidates should therefore present their cards for all upcoming examinations in the 2020/2021 academic year,” part of the notice signed by the Director of Academic Affairs, Mrs. Lydia Anowa Nyako-Danquah reads.
The statement further directed continuing students who are in need of provisional IDs to visit college academic offices or examination checkpoints to obtain them.
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country in March last year got management to reorganize the 2020/2021 academic year.
Among others, authorities of the institution have rolled out a modular system in a bid to curb the spread of the virus on campus.
Per the system, first and final-year students constitute a cohort and as they report to school for academic works, continuing students, levels 200 & 300 await the former to complete teaching and learning activities before returning to school for their semester.
This reorganization coupled with other factors rendered the identity cards of level 400 students invalid.
