Aspirant for the General Secretary position of the University of Ghana Students Representative Council (UGSRC), Rebecca Derry Mwinviel has promised to, when given the nod to become the next  SRC General Secretary, bridge the information gap between the management of the university, the SRC, and students.

The aspirant in her policy document stated that her tenure would see an effective information dissemination network that will always keep students abreast with issues in the university.

“Facilitate effective dissemination of information to all university of Ghana students on all campuses i.e.: Main campus, city campus, Korle -Bu campus, and Distance Education students. Bridging the info-gap through other campus-based organizations and traditional outfits. (University Christian Fellowship to denominational heads to the members of their various churches, the Islamic community to all Muslims, and the traditional councils of the various halls i.e. Chief Vandal, Chief Famer, and the Okpo Lord to their constituents.) My tenure in office will build an effective information dissemination network with the various JCR and Department Secretaries which ensure that the Student populace is always abreast with information.”

Among many other policies, Rebecca Derry Mwinviel has promised to create an “SRC news portal” where information is sent to reach large numbers of students.

“There will be a creation of an SRC news portal (mobile app) where timely and effective media communications would be sent to reach out to a large number of Students Social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) By this, students will not lose out on any relevant information as information will be communicated through all channels to their doorstep (various religious groups, Departmental groups, residents, and nonresidents Students).

Rebecca Derry Mwinviel on Saturday, July 31 2021 appeared before an eight-member vetting panel to answer important questions pertaining to the position she was vying for and the policies she planned to implement.

Pursuant to the Constitutional Instrument for this year’s elections, aspirants who obtained a cumulative average of 60% and above from the collective vetting committee were deemed sufficiently recommended.

A communique signed by the Chairperson of the Vetting Committee, Henry Ackon disclosed that all the 13 aspirants who appeared to be vetted had passed and were duly recommended by the committee to stand for the elections.

Stephanie Naadu Antwi also topped the General Secretary position with a score of 89.38% followed by Jonelle Mate-Kodjo with a score of 84%; and Rebecca Derry with 82.38%.
