As elections for various leadership positions draw closer, some aspirants and lecturers at the University of Ghana have sent the beauty of the institution to slaughter.

The aspirants who are hoping to spearhead the affairs of either their council or association are indiscriminately posting bills at unauthorized places in the school.

For years, the University of Ghana has been facing this challenge especially during big elections like the Students’ Representative Council elections among others.

Even though the University has adopted a policy to regulate the placement of advertisements on campus, students, church organizations, business owners and some lecturers are the biggest culprits.

Speaking to UniversNews, some students expressed their views on the indiscriminate posting of flyers, posters, and banners on the University’s campus.

“It is a shame that there is indiscriminate posting on campus, especially that there is even a law against it in the University and some of these aspiring leaders know very well the law but still go-ahead to break it in the name of campaigning. There are posters everywhere on floors, on pavements, on bins and at my hall, there are at least three posters on every door, it is too much.”

Following UniversNews‘ reports on the issue, the management of the university is yet to make an official comment in this regard.

It is worth noting that in the course of the 2018/2019 SRC elections, the dean of students affairs, Prof. Godfred Bokpin slapped two candidates with a 1,000 Ghana cedis fine.
