Some residents of the Alexander Adum Kwapong Hall have expressed displeasure over the ban of some aspirants from the hall’s 2021 Junior Common Room elections.

This follows the disqualification of some five aspirants by the Senior Tutor of the hall, Dr. Seth Boateng over what he described as ‘unnecessary’ legal tussles.

Speaking to UniverseNews, some residents of the hall called on the Senior Tutor to lift the ban and allow the elections to proceed.

“I don’t think it is the right decision to ban the aspirants because they have been of great help to us. I think they should reconsider and bring them back for us to have the election”

“As a normal person in the hall, I don’t understand what is going, I think there is something fishy going on there and it’s sad”

“I think it is the right thing to do because the aspirants violated the rules and regulations of the election”

These aspirants include Ms. Nana Yaa Gyamfi, Mr. Kelvin Osae Quansah, Pierretta Alaglo, Ms. Randa Grace Ekuban, and Mr. King George O Amuaben.

A letter signed by Dr. Seth D. Boateng on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, indicated that the above students lost their credibility as JCR aspirants for subjecting the whole Alexander Adum Kwapong Hall electoral process to legal suits, counter-suits, and injunctions at the JCR and SRC legal departments resulting in the hall’s inability to conduct in 2021 elections as scheduled.

The letter further stated that the actions of these five aspirants have “caused too much trauma and discomfort at the JCR Electoral Commission and the entire JCR parliament to the extent that it is becoming unattractive for responsible students of the hall to take up positions of members of parliament and electoral commissioners”.

The letter added that the ban will “ensure the Alexander Adum Kwapong Hall conduct the 2021 elections devoid of unnecessary suits, countersuits, accusations, counter-accusations, injunctions, and petitions intentionally designed to create an unconducive atmosphere for a peaceful conduct of the Electoral commissioner’s work and Parliamentary activities of the Hall”

The banned aspirants were warned that their residency would be revoked, should they flout the directive from the Senior Hall Tutor.

Mr. Kelvin Osae Quansah and Ms. Nana Yaa Gyamfi were both vying for the Presidential and Vice Presidential Office respectively.

Pierretta Alaglo was hoping to be elected as the Financial Secretary of the Hall, Ms. Randa Grace Ekuban for Organizing Secretary, and Mr. King George O Amuaben for Sports Secretary.
