COVID-19: Ghana’s active cases rise to 4,521; deaths now 823 – President Akufo Addo

As of July 23, 2021, 403 new COVID-19 infections have pushed Ghana’s active cases to 4,521.

This was disclosed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo on Sunday, July 25, 2021,  while delivering his 26th address on the measures taken by the nation to fight the spread of the coronavirus disease.

President Akufo Addo stated that the number of confirmed cases currently stands at 102,103 with 96,759 recoveries, 823 people have however succumbed to the disease,15 people are in critical conditions, and 25 people are in severe conditions.

He added that the country has so far conducted a total of 1,406,011 tests.

“As of Friday, 23rd July 2021, ten (10) weeks later, the Ghana Health Services is now reporting that our total number of active cases stands at 4,521. A total of one million, four hundred and six thousand, and eleven (1,406,011) tests have been conducted, out of which one hundred and two thousand, one hundred and three (102,103) persons have been infected with the virus, and ninety-six thousand, seven hundred and fifty-nine (96,759) persons have recovered. Our daily infection rate for the past week is 350 cases and, sadly, forty (40) more people have died from COVID over the last ten (10) weeks, bringing the cumulative number of deaths to eight hundred and twenty-three (823) since the onset of the pandemic.”

Northern Region – 1,672

Bono East Region – 1,543

Upper East Region – 1,324

Western North Region – 937

Upper West Region – 500

North East Region – 231

Savannah Region – 133

In addition to measures to help curb the spread of the disease, President Nana Akufo Addo banned all forms of receptions that follow funeral and wedding ceremonies with immediate effect.

He added that henceforth, funeral ceremonies should not exceed 2 hours.

“I have, in previous updates, emphasized the need for the strict observance of safety protocols at funerals, and the following measures are a set of enhanced protocols that must be adhered to by all at funerals: all events associated with funerals must be held in open-air spaces; there must be observance of the one (1) meter social distancing rule by sympathizers; the wearing of masks is mandatory, and persons must respect the enhanced hygiene protocols; funerals should not go beyond the two (2) hour time duration; post-funeral receptions are banned; handshakes must be avoided, and one-week funeral celebrations are restricted solely to family members, and should not exceed a duration of two (2) hours.”
