Catalyst of Change Konsult, a non-governmental organization has volunteered to plant 100, 000 trees in a day in different locations of the country as an initial record to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources Green Ghana Project.
The trees are slated to be planted on June 11 this year and Ghanaians would be mobilised to plant trees on the day and nourish them to maturity as a way of adding to the conservation of the environment.
The exercise would start with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, and the Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin Yeboah, planting trees.
The initiative by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has gained the interest of the aforementioned non-governmental organization who has proposed to champion the exercise in the various tertiary institution in the country.
According to the group, Catalyst of Change Konsult as an organisation is in sync with tertiary institutions in the training of its members in database and geospatial software. And as such has pledged to mobilise 10,000 student volunteers from the University of Ghana, University of Development Studies, University of Energy and Natural Resources, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and Accra Technical University.
The 100,000 volunteers on June 11, 2021, will plant 100,000 trees in different locations as proposed by the group.
The group further noted that, climate change does not only create new risks, costs and liabilities, but as well stands in the way of a healthy tomorrow.
“Our chance at continual existence now and in the future does not lie with Government alone, as leaders of the future, hence necessary that, critical proactive steps should be taken to secure a healthy future environment and climate“, the group indicated.
