GIJ Management draws roadmap for election of interim SRC executives

Management of GIJ has drawn a comprehensive roadmap for the election of interim SRC executives a few days after asking the current executives to step down.

In the release issued today 19th February 2021 by the Dean of Student Rhodaline Amartey, students “are hereby requested to elect their representatives from 19th February 2021, and submit the names to the office of the Dean of Students by 26th February 2021 for the formation of the Interim Committee”.

This move is pursuant to management’s communiqué to students dated 12 February 2021 which requested students to elect representatives of their various constituencies on an interim basis to oversee elections to restore peaceful academic work and legitimate student governance.

According to her, “each level shall be represented by one student on the committee, and that names of the elected representatives in addition to their curriculum vitae shall be submitted to her email address [email protected]” by February 26th 2021.

She further added that, the 15 elected students whose names will be finalized as legitimate interim GIJ-SRC executives are the ones she will work with.

However, presidents of the four halls in GIJ are automatically members of the committee since they have already been appointed as leaders of their halls.

Eligibility of students who want to be interim SRC Executives

The eligibility of a student to be elected as interim executive according to management “must be in a good standing in Article 9 of the GIJ SRC Constitution which talks about the eligibility of executives”.

According to Article 9, clause 3 “a student shall not be qualified to any executive office unless he has been admitted to GIJ and is an SRC member of good standing, he has considerable exposure and experience in GIJ SRC affairs, he has served on the General Assembly or on any SRC committee for at least six months and has been elected by a simple majority vote.
