In a directive by the management of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) for an election to be conducted to elect a GIJ-SRC interim committee, thirty-three students have applied to be a part of the committee.

On 8th February 2021, GIJ management declared its decision not to recognize the current appointed leaders spearheading the affairs of the SRC as SRC leaders because they “did not follow the procedure for the selection of student leaders as stipulated in the SRC Constitution”.

Due to this, students were directed to elect a minimum of ten and a maximum of seventeen students to act on an interim basis to put in place structures, institutions and a timetable for the conduct of elections.

In a communiqué issued today 24th February, 2021 and signed by the Dean of Students Rhodaline Amartey, “voting shall be done through Google Polls and the link shall be made available to students before voting begins”.

It further indicated that, “voting shall commence exactly at 8am and end at 5pm on tomorrow Thursday 25th February 2021 and the results declared within 24 hours after the close of polls”.

Although none of the former executives applied, notable among the nominees are, Efo Korku Mawutor, Joel Eshun and Philip Darku Nii Ankrah.
