It has come to light that the government has intentions to establish a tertiary institution that will focus on the development of sports in the country.

The institution will be known as the University for Sports for Development and will be sited in Tema, near the 50,000 seater capacity stadium that is being constructed for the 2023 All African Games.

The university, which is the first to be constructed in the sub-region, will focus on how to use sports to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

“The legacy the President of Ghana wants to leave, besides hosting and organizing the games and building a 50,000 seater Olympic Stadium at Borteyman, is to establish a University of Sport for Development, at the same site after the games so that it doesn’t turn into a white elephant,” a social media post by the Sports Ministry reads.
