The race for the upcoming UCC and Local Nugs Elections seems to have gathered some steam as the past few days have seen many candidates pull out news moves and made the headlines.
It was therefore unsurprising that Botaepa Consult, a group that did an opinion poll for the 2019 UCC SRC and Local NUGS election have once again this year announced they will be running same this year an activity they say is the first out of three similar polls and would help candidates know where to ‘channel campaign monies too’ and work much harder before campaigns draw to a close.
This has led to various candidates sharing messages encouraging their fans to vote for them in this poll, However Mr. Eli, an SRC Presidential aspirant has challenged this poll.
In a series of outbursts on his WhatsApp status, Mr. Eli calls on students not to engage botaepa consult, questioning when they became the university’s online poll center. Eli further question the timing of the poll and why it’s been run for aspirants and not candidates since vetting has not taken place and policies haven’t been outdoored yet.
Team Eli shortly after released a communique calling the said poll as fraudalent as they among other things questioned if the poll isn’t meant to sway votes towards a particular candidate come March.
Apart from Mr. Eli, a few people have raised concerns as to why students have to fill in their Index Numbers, Contact and other personal details to be able to participate in an Opinion Poll.
Does Mr. Eli have genuine concerns?
Would students and aspirants harken to Eli’s call?
Is Botaepa’s poll timing and method in bad faith and with ulterior motive as is being questioned?
