Real Tamale United are promoted to the Ghana Premier League for the first time in eight years after beating Unity FC 2-0 at home on Sunday, 25 July 2021, the final day of Division one league to tally 65 points and topple previous leaders Tano Bofoakwa.
The Pride of the North’s promotion was aided by Berekum Arsenals’ 0-0 home draw with Bofoakwa at the Golden City Park on the day.

Real Tamale United last relegation was in the 2012/13, in that season, the played 30 matches without a win. In their draw game against Berekum Arsenal, they were deducted 3 points for fielding an unqualified player.

Before the final day of that season, the Northern Lions had failed to record a win in 29 games.
They had conceded as many as 71 goals and scored just 19 times – an average of 0.65 per game.
RTU will join Bibiani GoldStars and Accra Lions as the three promoted teams in the Ghana Premier League next season.
