The Accra Technical University has held a matriculation ceremony for students who gained admission into the school for the 2020/2021 academic year.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Samuel Nii Odai, stated that a total of 8,578 fresh students were admitted this year to pursue various undergraduate programs in the school.
They are made up of 1,617 Bachelor of Technology, 5,426 full time and part-time Higher National Diploma (HND) and 293 diploma students.
Others include 928 non-HND and pre-HND students, as well as 314 students from the Military Academy and Training Schools (MATS).
According to Prof. Odai, the institution will begin an immediate development of the new campus at Samsam Mpehuasem near Amasaman along the Accra-Nsawam Highway, considering the increasing number of students being enrolled in the school.
“It is such a great joy to welcome into our great University this year the highest number of students in our history.
“For the first time this year, the engineering students will be having their practical workshops in the ultra-modern workshops on the campus. Our affiliation with MATS keeps growing from strength to strength,” he said.
In an address, the Commandant of MATS, Major Gen. Charles Kodjo Awity advised the students to take their studies very seriously.
“I urge you to continuously add up to your knowledge base by reading beyond what you would be taught in the classroom to become abreast of time in this fast evolving technological world,” he noted.
